Glyde-a new way to buy and sell books, movies, Cds…

A client emailed this to me because they thought it was cool. So I took a look at it. It is kinda cool in that that there is some movement on the site (thanks to the photo carousel and overlay windows), and it is attractive (slick grayscale design like Apple).

But the photo carousel is not the best way to search or browse through items to buy. It only provides a picture, no title, no description, no sorting (although they did work filtering into the carousel). And although you can click on the item to get details, and the cinematic effects are cool the first couple of times, I have to say I prefer Netflix’s hover details, instead of all of this explicit clicking, closing, scrolling, clicking…

In the Sell section, it could use a help tip or blank slate view to help you get started- otherwise it looks just like Buy. Searching to Sell seems to break my mental model a bit, but once I got it, I can keep using it.

I’m looking forward to seeing what they do next as the Organize section look useful and well designed.
